Fly fishing has always been an important part of my life. I began fly fishing in the Pacific Northwest, and fished for steelhead from British Columbia to California. If someone asks me something about "fishing" I automatically picture fly fishing...I think in fly fishing.

After retiring in 1993, I moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and became a fly fishing only guide. Here we mostly sight cast to redfish, snook and tarpon. This area of Florida is where all the really large world record tarpon are.

As well as fishing with a fly it seems I have always tied flies, starting with steelhead and then saltwater in the 1980's. I like all types of materials and styles of flies and I am especially interested in new techniques. I only have one rule, a fly must catch fish before I share it.

I'm on the Whiting Pro Team, a Simms Ambassador Guide and a Sage Pro Guide. Other interests are my flats boat and did I mention fly fishing and fly tying?

The GFF money box

… I have a small favor to ask.

Long story short

Support the Global FlyFisher through several different channels, including PayPal.

Long story longer

The Global FlyFisher has been online since the mid-90's and has been free to access for everybody since day one – and will stay free for as long as I run it.
But that doesn't mean that it's free to run.
It costs money to drive a large site like this.
See more details about what you can do to help in this blog post.

The Global FlyFisher was updated to a new publishing system early March 2025, and there may still be a few glitches while the last bits get fixed. If you meet anything that doesn't work, please let me know.
